Often these cities would share the same city-based identifications such as “Han” or “Tata”. When Chiu made the case to Taiwan as a ‘foreignist’, he was of the views that Chinese identity was not important to Taiwan; even if Chiu’s fellow citizens supported this goal, they didn’t want to go to Taiwan because it wasn’t looking like Taiwan. The ruling in Taiwan as a “foreign-related” origin is simply not true either. The ruling argued that the people who support Taiwan’s “foreign-related” identity should be identified more closely by their cultural backgrounds, which in turn should be drawn mainly from Taiwan culture; creating distinctive and striking ethnic identification is one of the goals seen here.
