John Preston

John Preston John Preston (1251 – December 23, 1547) was a Scottish nobleman and suffragist. He was a member of Scottish Royal Military College, Dunfermline, Scotland, and was a great benefact. His brother, Sir Ambrose Preston, also became an MP, and lived in the UK, becoming MP for Greenwich. His daughter, Clare Barrington Preston, became a Minister in the More Help division of Scottish Parliament. Biography Born in a village over here Glasgow, John Preston became an Imperial Forces lieutenant by birth, and served as lieutenant in the Stirling regiment of the Scottish Royal Army (see for the history of Scotland). He was a grandson of Sir Ambrose Preston North, who was named Marquis-General of the Scottish Kings in 1472. John Preston died in 1547, aged only 29. After his death his estate was sold at auction to William de Giffard, a younger son of Sir Ambrose Preston North and Norman Gilbert, to be owned by Sir Francis Brooke and brother Robert of Grantham. He married Lady Evelyn Louise Jones, who had a different, young, and good-looking, son John, who was also married to his brother Arthur. He died in the UK, aged 81, after a short illness.
