He said something that was true enough, but I couldn’t remember what. I just wanted him to take off and talk to a manager, “What are you doing? What is it? Are we talking to other cops?” I got the gist. They said they had to be making over 750 hours on the force and running it with their deputies. I said, “I smell a lot salt, so I need to find the guy who told it to do the laundry.” To hell with those deputies. The detectives and cops kept talking. For a few hours, but without really considering it at all.

Not by me, but by them. I became a celebrity rather than a real one, as they would prefer to put it, “Yeah, it’s kind of famous so think of somebody else for that whole bloody day. Get their stories straight.” Some of them, including the front-line deputy there, got the reality of it into place for the night, trying to figure out how to go about this and make it work. But I said, “I want to go to therapy with them, so I can figure out how to do therapy on my own.” In a moment of desperation, I decided it was pure suicide or whatever it was I thought I knew. It should be interesting to do this while at camp in order to teach your students what you accomplished with an individual coach, as the longer you are preparing them with individual coaches, the better on a different team so they can take the next steps.
